AI transparency statement

Last updated: 28 September 2026

How ClassABC uses generative AI, and how student information is protected when it does.

What the AI does

  • Answers teachers' questions about lesson plans, resources and speech pathology practice.
  • Summarises class and student progress from the school's own records.
  • Drafts planning notes and report comments for teachers to review and edit.

What the AI does not do

  • It does not interact with students.
  • It does not make automated decisions about students, such as grading, placement or eligibility.
  • It is not trained on your school's data.

Model and provider

We use OpenAI's GPT-4.1 family models through the OpenAI API, hosted in the United States. API requests are sent with storage disabled, and OpenAI does not use API data to train its models.

How student information is protected

  • Before each model request, every student name visible to your school is replaced with a token such as "Student 1". Names are restored only in the response shown to you.
  • Email addresses, phone numbers and dates of birth are redacted.
  • Tool access is limited by the teacher's role and the school's data isolation rules.
  • Conversation memory is kept for 30 days and purged when a student record is erased.

Human oversight

AI output is a draft. Teachers remain responsible for what they share with students and families. Report inaccurate or inappropriate output through in-app feedback or support.

Alignment

This approach is designed to align with the Australian Framework for Generative AI in Schools and the Safer Technologies 4 Schools (ST4S) expectations for AI-enabled products.
